In keeping with the clients aspirations for a strictly Vastu compliant house and, the placement of spaces in the house are predefined by vasthu principles, The Site is ideally located in hill top of Mahindra hills, Secunderabad which lies in hot dry climate. The design response to the climate, by incorporating relevant climatology concepts, the layout is evocative in principle of traditional Indian courtyard houses that create a cooler environment within to battle the extreme heat of the climate. Each space expands on to the central courtyard which acts as a focal point of the house.
We tried to take advantage of its hilltop position by orienting and massing of the house to make the most of the prevailing breezes of Secunderabad.
The stairs from the dining area connects to upper level consists of daughter’s bedroom, family room and master bedroom. The rooms in the upper volumes are split into two volumes which are connected to each other by bridges and visually connected to the entry level through openings in the rooms looking into double height spaces below.
An earthen palette of materials has been selected to allow for the emphasis of natural elements in the house. Rough textures of locally available stone were used for cladding double height court and exterior facade
Upper portion flooring was laid with Athangudi tiles, handmade tiles from chettinadu down south of Tamilnadu, which adds traditional value to the house
